Hi there – it’s Angie and Missy! We are so excited to introduce you to the Wedding Workshop. We’ve spent the better part of 2018 planning, designing and assembling what we think is going to be a great addition to the wedding planning sphere in St. Louis. We hope our concept helps engaged couples during the wedding planning process to not only get things checked off their enormous to-do list but to also have fun doing it. Get your buns in here!
In this blog we intend to get to give you a peek behind the curtain to – first introduce ourselves – and then let you know what we are up to each month and how we are surviving as new business owners, partners to two amazingly supportive men, and moms to some seriously cool kids.
I’m Angie, CEO and Co-Founder. A bazillion years ago (okay, maybe 18 years ago), I had an idea that revolved around wedding planning but sat on it and sat on it and sat on it because I worked in corporate America in the financial industry for 20 years and didn’t have the time or energy to pursue the idea and didn’t know the first thing about starting a business…blah blah blah. But in January of 2017 a good friend of mine encouraged me to read a book called “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero [EVERY WOMAN SHOULD READ THIS BOOK] and that 18+ year-old idea started to get a little louder in my head to the point where I couldn’t ignore it anymore.
I put all my ideas down on paper and presented it to another good friend of mine who happened to be in the wedding industry and after getting some very encouraging feedback from her, I decided to write a formal business plan and keep talking to more people in the industry to see where this cockamamie idea would land me. Low and behold, I met Missy in a business plan writing class and the stars aligned, rainbows appeared, and I knew this was the exact person I was meant to cross paths with – Missy made the idea come to life with her creative background and crafting skills. As Missy and I continued to meet and brainstorm, we decided to “do the damn thing” and quit our day jobs and haven’t looked back since. Sleep is a foreign concept and there have been fleeting moments of panic but it’s been the BEST decision I have EVER made.
When I’m not immersed in Wedding Workshop thoughts, I am a mom of two awesome boys who are 15 and 9 so I know my way around a Nerf gun and can tell a killer fart joke. I also found the love of my life standing in line at a port-a-potty in the parking garage of a building downtown St. Louis and after that fateful night I knew he was the one for me and we’ve been going strong for more than 4 years (check out my other blog to find out more about that love story). I pinch myself every day that I have such an amazing village of support from my parents, my sisters and brothers-in-law, my friends…I am truly overwhelmed and grateful for all the help I’ve gotten over the last two years on this journey and thank my lucky stars that this dream is coming true.
Hey, it’s Missy! I was a creative trapped in a corporate glass box for over 18 years and a couple years ago I was soul searching to figure out what was next for me. That search led me to a few classes at the community college. October 2017, I enrolled in a business plan writing class to develop a party-related online business. The stars aligned, and fireworks went off because that’s when I met Angie and her killer idea. I always say we are STLCC love story. It’s true…I love her and I LOVED her idea!
Angie and I have been cooking up magic since we met. Wedding Workshop is what STL was missing. And we’re listening to you to make it even better. Seriously!
This wild ride has had bumps and turns, but it’s the best feeling of my life! Go do it, find your passion…do what you love…don’t hesitate…take a risk…grab life…if you fall someone will help pick you up. And it’s so true, people continue to amaze me.
Outside of the Workshop, I’m the mother to a beautiful, creative, passionate, angsty teen and married to my high school sweetheart for over 15 years. Yep…crazy, right? He’s amazing and makes me a better person every day. I love all things unusual and off beat. I used to say I was a designer by day and an extreme crafter by night. I’ve never met a craft I didn’t like. I know my way around a glue gun, power drill, paint brush and I love to share my passion.
Let’s make something beautiful!
